Neighbourhood Watch Association of St. Albert
Is Your Vehicle
LOCKED
?
DID YOU KNOW?
33% of thefts under $5,000 in St. Albert in 1999 were from vehicles.
70% of motor vehicle thefts under $5,000 were from inside unlocked cars.
None of the vehicles had alarm systems, or the alarm systems were not on.
WHAT CAN WE DO?
LOCK you vehicle.
Do not leave you purse or other valuables in the vehicle.
Install an alarm system in your vehicle.
Park in a well lit area. If you park in a driveway, consider motion detector lights.
Do not leave your garage door open when you are not in.
Keep bushes and trees trimmed and your yard well lit so it is not easy for someone to hide in it.
Buy stereo equipment that has an anti-theft device, such as removable face plates.
Report suspicious people or noises to the police when they happen. Don't wait until morning!
IMPACT ON THE COMMUNITY
The social and economic costs of crime undermine our quality of life by restricting our sense of freedom, breeding mistrust and intolerance.
Crime prevention results in better use of public funds, improved quality of life and increased economic development.
